Womelsdorf-Reading School

sold-sign.gif - 1.01 KbThis rifle is based upon the works of J. Bonewitz and L. Reedy, of the Womelsdorf school. While not a copy of any particular rifle, it does contain attributes of both builders, and maintains the general architecture of the Womelsdorf school.

Stocked in highly figured maple, this longrifle has been stained to a pleasing golden brown and hand finished with oil/varnish for a warm, gently aged look.

This rifle utilizes a Rice “Reading Profile” barrel, .50 caliber, B weight, that is 41” long. The barrel has been draw filed, cold blued, and rubbed back to a gun metal grey color.

The Germanic styled lock provides crisp ignition and closely replicates those found on original rifles by Bonewitz and Reedy. The lock has been polished and cold blued, then rubbed back to a gun metal grey color that matches the barrel finish.

The brass patch box is modeled after ones found on original Reedy rifles, and engraved with a design appropriate for the period and school. One difference is the utilization of a single rivet in the patch box lid, as opposed to two utilized by Bonewitz and Reedy.

The brass furniture utilized on the rifle is copied from original rifles, and has been given a patina that adds to the overall “well cared for antique” look.
